Honesty and Deception

A peculiar fad I have heard
of fellows whose lives are boring
Washing away their fatal pain
A sad but frequent story

No one knows quite how it works
Faced towards the sky
Dependant, it cannot survive
Without this lullaby

Something stewing inside this head
Of one thing we are sure
Nothing except sorrow's brought
From this deceiving lure

Sickly decomposing
As if life is all that's left
And when the soft bird sings
It's last song welcomes death

What exactly is this thing
Of which we should fear?
